History: Episodes - as a major character Rayla is in pretty much every episode. The official site has a small blurb, and the Fandom wiki has mostly personality stuff.

Rayla was raised by a fellow elf, Runaan, to be an assassin after her parents fled from helping the dragon king. Her first mission is very important and she believes it will resolve her parents' shame. Using a magical bond, she ties herself to the mission and its completion, wearing two mystical ribbons, one on each wrist. They cannot be cut by any known method. The only way the bonds come off is through the mission's completion. After a few days from the start of the bond, the ribbons begin to tighten, threatening the loss of the limb they are on if the mission isn't completed.

Rayla is first seen tracking a human that spotted her assassin group just outside the human kingdom of Katolis. She's been sent to eliminate him so that he can't send word back to the human king of the elves' approach. However, when the human slips on the mud and slides down a hill in fear, she finds that she can't bring herself to actually kill him. The human escapes, and Rayla returns to her troupe, having used berry juice on her weapons to make it look like she had blood on them.

When the group is later tracked down by human soldiers, they figure out and get Rayla to admit to her failure. Runaan demands that she stay behind, and the rest move off on their mission. Rayla ends up following them, determined to make things right. Inside the castle, she comes across the older brother of the crown prince, the "step-prince" Callum. Callum claims to be the crown prince Ezran to protect his younger half-brother, but Ezran admits to his identity when they come across him later. Rayla tells them she has to kill Ezran, and the two flee into a secret passageway inside the castle. Rayla tracks them down, and the three end up finding the lost egg of the dragon prince. The egg had been presumed destroyed, starting the war between the magical beings and the humans after the dragon king's death, but the three of them feel that taking the egg back to the dragon queen will help bring peace back to their world. Making an uneasy truce, they steal the egg to begin their journey.

As they're leaving the castle, they're first stopped by a human mage, Claudia, who attempts to prevent them from running away with the egg, believing Rayla has kidnapped the two princes. Rayla then later faces Runaan, and tells him her plans to take the two princes and the egg back to the magical lands so the queen will forgive them. Runaan states they still have to kill the human king and prince to fulfill their pact and refuses to let the three to leave. Rayla fights him, but doesn't kill him. Instead, the group manages to escape. Later that night, one of the ribbons on Rayla's wrists falls off, indicating the mission to kill the human king was fulfilled. Rayla knows the other ribbon won't come off until she kills Ezran, but she can't bring herself to do it.

They continue to travel, running from various humans tracking them, trying to protect the unhatched egg. The ribbon for Ezran begins to tighten around Rayla's wrist, threatening to disable her hand. She admits to the others why her hand isn't at full strength, that she needs to kill Ezran due to a magical pact, but is refusing to do so at the potential cost of her own limb. Ezran thanks her for not killing him, but they are then forced to run from an avalanche. Callum uses wind magic to try holding off the wall of snow, but he eventually weakens, and the avalanche pushes them out onto a frozen lake. When it starts to crack, Callum and Rayla race to save Ezran and the egg, but Rayla's hand gives out, and she drops the egg. The egg breaks through the cracked ice into the freezing water below. They manage to save the egg, but it's visibly unhealthy, and they go looking for help to save both the egg and Rayla's hand.

Eventually, they come upon a village with a veterinarian. While the princes go talk to the vet, Rayla tracks down a human they had spotted using a magical Sun Forge blade in the town square. She attempts to steal the blade to cut the tightening ribbon, but it doesn't work. She meets up with the two princes that reveal the vet couldn't help them, but they talked to a young girl about a nearby mountain she had climbed with her three-legged wolf pup, and how she came back to town with the pup having been miraculously healed. The Sun Forge blade's owner rallies the town to chase down the elf in their midst, and the group has to run. They head for the mountain, and the girl follows them with her wolf, deciding to guide them up to the tree where she said she met a miracle healer. Once they get there, they find that this miracle healer is actually an elven illusionist, living on the mountain to protect a magical place where one can connect with the elemental magic of the Moon. While she cannot heal the egg, and reveals that the fourth "leg" she gave back to the injured pup was actually an illusion all along, she says that they will likely need to hatch the egg to save it. However, the illusionist reveals that the dragon prince is a sky dragon, and the only way the egg will hatch is within a storm. This inspires Callum to break his storm primal stone to release the storm within in the hopes that the egg will hatch.

The egg hatches, and the group is momentarily relieved. When the young dragon hatchling attempts to lick at Rayla's injured hand, she thanks him for his concern, but reveals that the only way to break the ribbon tightening around her wrist is to kill Ezran or wait for it to cause her hand to fall off as no known blade can cut it. The dragon looks closer, and then bites the ribbon free from her wrist, breaking the bond, and preventing the loss of her hand. The group takes a bit of time to rest as Callum asks the illusionist about magic. While they're there, Rayla patrols the area watching for followers, and ends up finding Claudia, and her soldier brother, Soren. They agree to a temporary truce out of respect for the sacred place they are in, and Claudia and Soren try to convince the two princes to return home with the egg. Soren, however, tries to create an "accident" for Ezran to die in, as he's been ordered by his father to see to it that the princes never return to Katolis. Rayla picks up on this interferes with his plans in a way that Ezran can't tell that Soren was attempting to kill him. The princes and Rayla decide to play along with the idea of returning to Katolis, planning on running away from the siblings later, but when Claudia and Soren decide to take their attempt at getting the egg and killing the princes to the next level, a human scout locates the group, they use the distraction to sneak away with Rayla on the illusionist's magical bird.

The team continues on their way, leaving behind the young girl and the elven illusionist, and travel as far as the bird is able to take them. They continue to be tracked by several humans as they travel, and find themselves having to cross a large body of water to make up for lost time and hopefully lose their tail. Rayla has a deep-seated fear of water, however, and it takes some doing to get her to agree to travel by boat. She spends most of the trip sick at the side rail, clinging desperately to the posts so she doesn't fall in.

Claudia and Soren, having captured the tracker, Corvus, do manage to catch up to them, however. The princes and Rayla try to help an injured dragon against Soren and a group of humans from a nearby town that want to kill it, and Callum protects them with magic. However, the only magic humans can use without a primal stone is dark magic, and Callum had destroyed the storm stone to hatch the dragon egg. He taps into dark magic despite warnings against it, and it leaves him ill. Rayla ends up watching over him as he struggles with hallucinations and dreams. Corvus, having escaped from Claudia and Soren, arrives and Ezran receives news of his father's death. He demands to know if Rayla knew. She admits that she did because the other ribbon had fallen off her wrist on its own back on that first night, and apologizes for not saying something sooner. Ezran runs away from the group, leaving Rayla alone with the ill Callum, as Corvus goes after the younger prince to protect him.

Callum finally comes out of his illness much to Rayla's relief, and he's come to a realization in his hallucinations. He understands how to tap into the elemental magic of the sky and can now cast sky-based spells without a primal stone. Ezran and Corvus return to the cave where Rayla had been keeping Callum while he recovered, and the young prince comes to term with his fate, knowing he has to take his place on the throne with his father's death. He goes back to Katolis with Corvus, leaving the tiny dragon with Callum and Rayla to continue their journey.

Callum and Rayla eventually make it to the border between the human lands and the magical lands, which is a massive crack in the earth filled with lava. Rayla reveals that there's a magical path across the lava marked by Moonshadow runes, but they're only visible in the moonlight. Together, they make their way across, but get delayed, and lose the runes when the moon sets before they can finish their crossing. Desperate, Azymondias, the dragon hatchling who had been having trouble learning to fly up to this point, suddenly finds it in him to save his friends by flying them the rest of the way across before the lava can swallow them.

But, as the three of them finally make their way into the pass that will take them to the magical lands, they come upon the pass's new guardian who took the place of the dragon king after his death... Sol Regem, the Sun Dragon.

Personality: Rayla is sassy and sarcastic, but takes her mission as an elven assassin very seriously. She was raised for this through her entire life, and is often more mature than her age may indicate. But she's still a teenager at heart, and can sometimes be distracted by fun things, and silliness. Rayla also has a kind heart, something of a weakness for her life-long goal to be an assassin. Her first assigned kill is a failure as she can't bring herself to actually kill the person she was chasing. This leaves her insecure and feeling like a failure with something to prove, because what good is an assassin who can't kill? She's strong, and can sometimes be reckless, but she knows her strengths and her value, and refuses to let things go once she sets her mind to them. She has a distrust of humans, but slowly learns that not all humans are horrible and evil beings, and slowly begins to break down her prejudices in favor of finding a peaceful resolution to the coming conflict between humans and magical beings.

Abilities: Rayla is extremely fast and strong. As a Moonshadow Elf, she has the ability to turn almost completely invisible at night, especially during a full moon, when the Moon's magic is the strongest. Rayla does not seem to cast spells, and not all of her Moonshadow elf powers have yet been revealed in the show. However, she's also young and untested, and is likely still learning to use some of her abilities. She's extremely adept at stealth, and has been trained to fight with dual blades. She is highly agile, able to leap and run through tree tops and over buildings, climb rock walls, and do acrobatics to assist in her hand-to-hand combat.

Personal Item: Rayla carries a cloak with her to hide her features in the daylight around humans.
